Florida Slave narratives are a unique volume of slave narratives collected by the Federal Works Progress Administration from 1936-1938. What makes these specific collected interviews from former slaves in Florida unique is the fact that some of the interviewers were of African American decent. The American Guide, or the Negro Writers' Unit were some of the few black interviewers that interviewed ex-slaves. The majority of the interviewers were white. Thereby, historians have contended that the former slaves who were interviewed by white interviewers may not have been honest or as forthcoming as compared to when being interviewed by someone of the same race.
