When Mort, Jack's mysterious uncle, shows up unexpectedly, volunteering to chaperone his field trip to Scotland, young 12-year-old Jack is thrilled. However, soon he finds himself face-to-face with fiery wraiths intent on killing him. After his friends are kidnapped to another world - also known as "Otherworld", Jack finds out that he is far from ordinary. In entering Otherworld to rescue his friends, he discovers that thought-to-be mythical creatures, elves, dwarves, gnomes, floating islands, and much more exist. Quite unwillingly, Jack is thrust into a battle which will shape the destiny of two worlds which are quickly colliding.
