Barbara Allen grew up in a small town in New York, sandwiched in the middle of six siblings. Her rural life was interspersed with culture through her family's hosting of numerous exchange students and other guests from around the world. Barbara had the opportunity to participate in the Rotary Exchange program, and credits her year in Denmark with awakening her sense of adventure. Barbara met her husband Lou while on summer break from college. The two became engaged shortly after Barbara received her Bachelors degree in Equestrian Science. They married in 1996. Lou became a popular high school science teacher and joined the National Guard. The couple was married for nine years and had four young boys when, in 2005, Lou was murdered by a fellow soldier just a few days into his deployment in Iraq.

It was the devastation from his loss combined with the outrage over his killer's acquittal that inspired Barbara to write her first book, Front Toward Enemy, while simultaneously earning her Masters degree in Criminal Justice. She remains heavily involved with organizations established to support families of fallen soldiers and continues to advocate for posthumous bestowment of the Purple Heart for her husband. Barbara also volunteers at an Equine Rescue. She and her four children reside in New York. Now, Barbara is shifting her work to the lighter side of life after death. The first romance novel of her trilogy is borne from her own experience in triumphing over tragedy. Her characters bring to life the spirit with which she lives her own life.
