Outer Banks Wild, Volume I is a cleverly designed pictorial depicting the first 45 horses decorated for the Winged Horse Extravaganza, a hugely successful public art exhibit featuring more than 100 life-size, artistically decorated fiberglass horses along North Carolina's Outer Banks. (The Outer Banks is an upscale tourist destination, hosting more than 200,000 visitors a week during the summer.) Kitty Hawk-based Outer Banks Press, publisher and project sponsor, chose winged horses in honor of the Wright brothers' first flight, and as an homage to the wild horses that still populate the area.
