Opening October 25, 1829 and closing in 1971, Eastern State is considered to be the world's first true penitentiary. Notorious criminals such as bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held within its wagon wheel design. At its completion, the building was the largest and most expensive public structure ever erected, and quickly became a model for more than 300 prisons worldwide. Take a private tour of the "model prison" as it stands today in decay as time marches on leaving it a fascinating relic and historical site of the past. Here is a book of full-color 3-D photographs showing you effective images of the prison and perhaps allowing you to reflect what it must have been like for the inmates that were held here.
