Conyers (Black studies, College of Arts and Sciences, U. of Nebraska-Omaha) collects 22 essays, scholarly studies, memoirs, and other works which address diverse aspects of African American scholarship from history, literary criticism, and cultural studies to oral history and folkways from an African American perspective. Topics include a memoir of old southern ways; analysis of sources of self in ancient Egyptian autobiographies; an assessment of Cornel West as a public intellectual; and science reform within a culturally diverse school district. Contributors include a wide-ranging group of scholars and writers, although their academic or other affiliations are not noted.
