SHOWDOWN AT HIGH NOON is a fictional stand-alone, revisionist Western novel and one-half of the 'Batwings & Bullets duology', set in the fictional town of Sunrise, Nebraska, in the Old West of 1884. Bank owner Montgomery Gold, nicknamed 'Mad Money Monty' by some, has questionable business motives that many Sunrise locals deem greedy. Like a shady politician with a hidden agenda, he's very publicly polite and socially interactive, and his aggressive banking has helped the small Nebraskan town grow quickly since he moved there three years prior. Sheriff Hank Westwood, unlike Monty, is a proud, lifelong resident of Sunrise. Liked by an overwhelming majority of the population, he's quietly watched a growing shroud envelop his beloved town. Several townspeople have become covert eyes, secretly and constantly informing Monty of every whispered gossip and action, even before things would happen. One extremely hot Friday in July, a passing train makes an emergency stop in Sunrise, carrying a passenger who was bound for Lincoln. Rosetta Star, an unintentional and undercover visitor, disembarks the train to report a robbery (that took place on the train earlier that morning) to the local sheriff, for she was an interactive eyewitness.

By the end of that July weekend, the instability between greed & law will crash, deeply held secrets will be exposed, and Monty's human-chess game will turn the town of Sunrise upside down. The final confrontation does not take place in the honorable town. Instead, the neighboring abandoned town of High Noon, believed by local legend to be cursed, will house the showdown that will change the future of southeast Nebraska.
