Basil was the youngest child of James and Elizabeth Billingsley. Throughout his entire life, all of his older siblings had called him, "Little Brother." He lived comfortably with his parents in a stately home in the quiet frontier town of Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina. Basil never did anything dangerous or important . until a quiet night in April, 1776. Loyalist militiamen raided his home and attacked his Patriot family. At the tender age of nine, Basil had to take up arms and fight to defend his home. His quiet, boring life was shattered on that night of gunfire, blood, and pain.
