Greg Battersby is of counsel to the intellectual property law firm of Grimes & Battersby, LLP with offices in Norwalk, CT and New York City, a firm which he co-founded with Charles Grimes in 1982. He has 40 years of experience in intellectual property and licensing law. Prior to co-founding Grimes & Battersby, he had been associated with two major New York City IP law firms and was senior counsel at Gulf & Western Industries (now Viacom). Greg has a degree in biology/chemistry from Seton Hall University and a law degree from Fordham Law School, which he earned a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away while also working in the labs at Grumman Aerospace on the Lunar Excursion Module and F-14 programs. & ;& ;& ; For the past 17 years, he has served as General Counsel for the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers; Association (LIMA) and was recently inducted into its Hall of Fame. He has also been an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA).& ;& ;& ; Greg is a prolific author, having written more than 32 books on various licensing and IP topics, including the seminal book on the law of merchandising entitled The Law of Merchandise & Character Licensing, which was originally published in 1985 and is updated annually through Thomson Reuters, as well as the annual treatise Licensing Royalty Rates published by Wolters Kluwer. He is a founder and executive editor of The Licensing Journal and the IP Litigator, both published by Wolters Kluwer and is the legal columnist for Total Licensing.


He has written more than 50 articles on various licensing and IP topics and given more than 200 talks on the subject before a wide range of audiences, including INTA, LES, AIPLA and other organizations.
