Bellarmine's Advice on How to Be a Good Bishop : Admonitio Ad Episcopum Theanensem Nepotem Suum
St. Robert Bellarmine, S.J. (1542-1621), Doctor of the Church, wrote Advice on How to be a Good Bishop (1616) for his nephew, who had been created a bishop. Drawing on the Fathers of the Church, the reforms of the Council of Trent, and the edifying example of St. Charles Borromeo, Bellarmine presents a high ideal of the ministry and life of a bishop. In nine controversies he presents answers to help guide a bishop to heaven. This is the first time this work has been translated into English.
