Excerpt from Diseases of the Thyroid Gland and Their Surgical TreatmentThis book is based upon the Essay to which the Jacksonian Prize of the Royal College of Surgeons for 1886 was awarded. The essay in its original form was never published because I felt that at that time I had had so little personal experience of thyroid operative surgery, that it was undesirable to commit my observations to print.
