A Select Annotated Bibliography of Public Attitudes Toward Mental Illness, 1975-2005
This volume brings together key papers which, from 1975 to 2005, have dealt with public attitudes to mental illness and psychiatry. Mental illness and psychiatry both tend to produce negative and rejecting attitudes in people's perceptions. The reasons for these negative attitudes are many, and include fear, stigma, lack of understanding or knowledge, and the holding of alternative explanations for these illnesses, behaviours, and experiences.
