G. Maarten Bonnema is an associate professor in multidisciplinary systems design at the Department of Design, Production and Management of the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Twente, and is part-time associate professor at the Norwegian Institute of Systems Engineering (NISE) in Kongsberg, Norway. He studied Electronic Engineering, and did a two year designer course on Technical Systems. He has worked as a Systems Engineer at ASML, contributing to the TwinScan system design. He received his PhD in 2008 from the University of Twente on FunKey Architecting. In 2006 and 2007 he was involved in the design of a wafer stepper at MAPPER lithography (part time). In the young multidisciplinary systems design group at the UT, the various tracks of research aim at supporting system designers, conceptual design and mechatronic design by improving multidisciplinary communication. Also systems thinking is researched.

At NISE, he is mainly researching Electric Mobility from a Systems Engineering point of view. This involves modelling the system and supersystem, investigating the charging infrastructure, and looking at man-machine interaction. He has a broad teaching expertise spanning design in general, industrial design, and systems engineering. Karel Theodoor Veenvliet (associate professor) has MSc Civil Engineering degree from the University of Delft. His research interest is on value engineering and systems engineering in the field of civil engineering. He is interested in the implementation process, how to improve the outcome of the design process in civil engineering projects by application of value engineering and systems engineering methods and tools. Since 2012 he retired but is still active in advising companies how to apply value engineering and systems engineering methods and tools. Jan Broenink (associate professor) has MSc EE & biomedical and PhD EE degrees both from the University of Twente.

His PhD project was on development of a software tool for physical systems modelling and simulation using bond graphs. This tool, now called 20-sim is commercially available. His current research interest is embedded software for cyber-physical systems, especially robots. For that, he is interested in model-driven methodology, designing software tools using a meta-modelling approach, co-simulation, concurrency, software architectures and systems engineering. All in the context of cyber-physical systems and robotics. He has been Project Coordinator of the successful EU FP7-STREP project DESTECS, on Design Support and Tooling for Embedded Control Software.
