Despite being a relative newcomer to the preserved railways of Great Britain, the East Lancashire Railway has rapidly grown into a major tourist attraction. Main-line access and generous curves mean that the railway regularly runs visiting stock, including the largest main-line locomotives. The line runs through a diverse landscape, including towns, industrial areas and large rural sections.
