Southern Greece, the late 1960s. Sent to excavate a remote site during the brutal unrest of the Greek Junta, young archaeologist Marcus steps into an untamed landscape as ancient as it is unknowable. Deep beneath the sun-scorched earth, he mistakenly uncovers something that should never have been found; something bound in myth, blood, and ancient power. At the same time, he is drawn into a consuming and mysterious love with a hauntingly enigmatic local woman -an entanglement as alluring as it is dangerous. Fleeing revelation and desire, Marcus returns to England, where in the wintery depths of the swinging sixties, he discovers that some truths follow like shadows -and the past is never buried for long.
