Melody Brunsting has been writing stories for over 30 years as a public relations and marketing professional. While she has written and ghostwritten numerous books, her original books have sat on a shelf awaiting the rewrites. Born legally blind in her left eye, Melody has never had depth perception, leaving her world flat. Instead of drawing and painting, she wrote her stories and sketched cartoons. She started a street painting festival where the master painter teaching artists at the event, encouraged her to paint. She soon discovered the lack of depth perception was an advantage for a painter. In 2013 she bean putting her comics in print and had a series "Franger Chicken" published in the Rogers County magazine for three years. Norm, her Saint Bernard, rescued from the "swamp," was frightened by loud noises and people shouting.
Knowing his background, she understood why he hid under her desk and thought his adventures would make a good book for children. "I thought his adventures would help children overcome some of their fears," Melody explains. "Some of my editors suggested that the book would also be a good book for families adopting an abandoned dog."Melody and her husband have adopted five Saint Bernards including Norm, two Great Danes, a partially blind Dalmation named Donna Dal, and a Basset Hound. She also writes and illustrates two comics: "Franger Chicken" and "Ancient Chicken.
