Joan Busquets is an architect, urban planner, and the first Martin Bucksbaum Professor in Practice of Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is a founding member of the Laboratorio de Urbanismo de Barcelona (LUB) and Chair-Professor of Town Planning and Urban Design in the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona (ETSAB-UPC). Busquets has directed some twenty academic studies and developed research on urban form and projects such as X Lines and Urban Grids. He served as Head of Urban Planning for the Barcelona City Council, contributing to urban rehabilitation and the preparations for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. He has published numerous articles and books on city design. With the BAU team, he has done urban planning projects in Barcelona, Amsterdam, A Coruña, Alguero, Delft, Ningbo, Montreal, Sao Paolo, Lisbon, Singapore, Shanghai, Toledo and Toulouse, among others. In the past decade he has received various awards including the Erasmus Prize in the Netherlands, the prize for Architecture and Public Space in Catalonia, the Special Grand Prize in Urbanism in France, and the P. Abercrombie Prize from the UIA in 2021.
