(Middle Grade: Ages 8-12) 12-year-old Dani de Marco and her best friend, Anna, are looking forward to spending their summer vacation learning how to ride at Marigold Stables, a new riding stable on the edge of town. During lessons, the two form a friendship with Theo, the assistant riding instructor's son. They are just starting to feel at home on the horse farm when Marigold - a champion barrel racer and the stable's namesake - disappears from her pasture. Maria, the stable owner and riding instructor, is devastated. Did the prize-winning mare escape? Or has the horse been stolen? Then another disaster strikes: a fire in the tack room. Soon after, Maria receives a mysterious offer from someone wanting to buy the farm.With few clues to go on, the three young riders must solve the mystery of Marigold's disappearance and find out who set the fire.
