A speaker of French and Latin he is also fluent in Norwegian and Bulgarian.He is a novelist and translator, happy to acknowledge his passionate affair with Bulgaria, which began with his three year stint as a teacher there from 1977. His translation of Nikola Filipov's "Bulgarians around London: Where they go, what they do and should I care?" is published by Author Press in 2014. He has also translated significant extracts from classic and contemporary Bulgarian fiction writers and poets.
