Bruce M. Carlson serves as Professor Emeritus in the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor where he served as Chairman of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and Director of the Institute of Gerontology. He is the author of about 25 books on topics ranging from embryology and regeneration to lake biology, and he has edited another 15 books. Books published by Elsevier include Human Embryology and Developmental Biology 1-7e, Principles of Regenerative Biology, and Muscle Biology-The Life History of a Muscle. He has served as President of the American Association of Anatomists and the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Neurobiology Chairpersons. Additional honors include the AAAS Newcomb-Cleveland Prize, membership in the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Henry Gray Award of the American Association of Anatomists. An accomplished teacher, he has received both the Elizabeth Crosby Teaching Award and the Kaiser-Permanente Teaching Award from the University of Michigan Medical School.
