Through her playful and imaginative stories, Christell Chapin, has written and illustrated many children's books, all of which are designed to empower and encourage children everywhere to feel loved, valued and appreciated. Her stories are entertaining, insightful and timely. The inspiration for her stories, comes from her own life experiences. Christell was born in California's bay-area in the sixties, while elements of her childhood were joyful, other parts she describes as, filled with loneliness, sorrow and struggles, which according to Christell, is how her desire to write began, "I wanted to help kids like me, who were having a hard time." While she had long desired to write children's stories, she said she never really believed she had the abilities necessary to achieve her goal, until she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in 2017. She learned to paint and wrote her first book, DOCTOR, AM I BETTER YET? while undergoing chemotherapy. She incorporated the lessons learned when she was bullied as a child into, PEPE'S JOURNEY. It was written to help others who find themselves being the subject of ridicule, simply because they are "different.
" It encourages the reader to see themselves as worthy and valuable, regardless of the way they may look, or where they came from, how they dress, etc. and helps to build a child's self-esteem by looking within themselves for strength and courage. Each of her stories has its own special message which is conveyed through a rhythm of dialogue, creating genuine and authentic poetry. All of her books are filled with whimsical and imaginative illustrations that are sure to delight children everywhere for generations. " I hope my stories are able to provide kids with some guidance, comfort and support." She expressed that if children have the tools necessary to grow into kind, creative, healthy, compassionate adults, who are capable of shaping their lives for the better, then we all can look forward to a happier, healthier, hope filled world.
