AFN Clarke served as a Private, LCpl and Officer in the Parachute Regiment during the 1970s. He served in Cyprus with 3PARA as part of the United Nations Forces in Cyprus; two tours in Northern Ireland and a tour with the French Airborne before being discharged in 1978 after several major surgeries due to his last tour in Northern Ireland in 1976.
