After the death and destruction of those two fierce armies at Shiloh in the spring of 1862, the life of a young Confederate cavalry captain would never be the same. Married to a lovely Mobile socialite who died of fever as he charged those far-away Yankee lines, his white columned Mississippi plantation home would be looted and burned to the ground. He would survive this horrible war only to cross into Mexico after Lee's surrender with General Kirby Smith's troops to become a Confederate guerilla, then to fight for Mexico's independence.
