Jay Coles (b. 1995) in Hammond, Indiana. He now resides in Indianapolis, Indiana with two dogs that inspire him to write stories. Jay will be studying Secondary English Education at Ball State University this year and plans to be a middle school or high school English/Language Arts teacher in a few years. Jay also has plans to eventually have a writing career and teach college courses on creative writing and English language studies. In his free time, Jay writes books, short stories, poems, reads, and watches way too many movies. His favorite book is most certainly The Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and he reads it at least once a month. His favorite movie would most certainly have to be Pan's Labyrinth.
Jay found inspiration over the years, from reading books like Harry Potter, Judy Bloom, The Great Expectations, The Catcher in the Rye, Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, among others. Jay has written numerous stories, starting at the age of seven. From reading a wide genre of books, watching an equally as wide range of television shows, his current novels have unfolded. The Growing Feathers was Jay's first novel ever published and has won a few distinctions and honorable mentions. Currently, Jay is working on his first ever dystopian trilogy, which he describes as an inspiration of watching Ender's Game and reading the Divergent series. The series title has been revealed as: LIONHEART. The trilogy will have three books with the following titles: LIONHEART, INSURRECTION, and RESURGENCE. Jay has finished LIONHEART and is now halfway through INSURRECTION.
In addition to all of his successes and goals with writing, Jay spends the majority of his time advocating for youth achievement. He promotes cultural awareness in and out of his community, works closely with the IndyCan association, and tries his best to give back to the world all that he can.
