About the Author Michael Colvin is Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies at Marymount Manhattan College, New York. He holds a PhD from Temple University, and is the author of Las ltimas obras de Jos Donoso: Juegos, roles y rituales en la subversin del poder (2001). He has published articles on questions of marginality and the identity of the other in contemporary Brazilian and Chilean narrative. His most recent work focuses on the intersection between politics, literature, music, and film in twentieth-century Portuguese popular culture. Dr. Colvin's articles have appeared in Portuguese Studies, Luso-Brazilian Review, Portuguese Literary and Cultural Studies, Explicacin de textos literarios, and Hispanic Journal. And his opinions about the problematic relationship between the Fado and Fascism have been quoted in The Guardian, RTP, and on fadista, Mariza's Web site.
