John Connell is Professor of Human Geography at the University of Sydney. He has worked on development issues in the Asia-Pacific region and written several articles and books on tourism. The articles cover tourism in places as distinct as North Korea, Bali, Niue, Jamaica and Vanuatu. The books include Medical Tourism (2011), Music and Tourism. On the Road Again (2005, with Chris Gibson), Tourism at the Grassroots: Villagers and Visitors in the Asia-Pacific (2008, with Barbara Rugendyke), and Outback Elvis (with Chris Gibson, 2017) Phil McManus is Professor of Urban and Environmental Geography at the University of Sydney. He is the (co)author/editor of over 100 publications, many in international leading journals. Phil has been President of the Institute of Australian Geographers and the Geographical Society of NSW and is currently a Vice-President of the International Geographical Union. Xuesong Ding is Assistant Professor in the School of Geosciences at University of Texas at Austin, USA.


She has worked on landscape dynamics and interactions with climate and sea level changes. She has an established interests in Chinese tourism worldwide, with a specific focus on how social media is reshaping the traditional tourism map.
