Paintings, sculptures and performances, the works of Rauschenberg are veritable mirrors of American consumerist society. Rauschenberg allows the three dimensions of the world to penetrate his visual field and advances the ready-made by intensifying the formal research of his predecessors. From Black Mountain College to the MoMA, the Rauschenberg revolution not only touched painting and sculpture, but also music, dance and etching. This work explores the entirety of this artist's uvre and analyzes his position in the art world while addressing his relationship to other artists, such as Jasper Johns.
