Brian Brown isn't dead. Not quite. But when he nods off on his commute, he wakes up in Limbo; a mundane office eerily similar to his own, complete with an aging clerk and an impossible to obtain death certificate. He realises there must be a mistake, but by this point it is too late: his body, having mysteriously gained new powers, has disappeared without him to roam the mortal world. Brian is left stranded, caught in the web of a stiflingly bureaucratic Afterlife. Things only get stranger. God (short, petulant, and politically embattled) offers Brian a way home, but only if he'll help save Religion from irrelevance. Time, a weary matron with a plan to stop everything forever, has other ideas.

And Death? He's just doing his job. As he battles valiantly to complete his commute to work, Brian must team up with Martha - a brilliant, deceased paediatrician who cannot bear the weight of eternity - and reckon with an all-powerful duplicate version of himself who's unravelling back on Earth. At its heart, The Afterallis about someone who never really knew how to live - until he died.
