The author has always been an avid reader fascinated with medieval history. Drawn to the origins of democracy and the changes in society that led to the system that gives people rights, he focused on exploring the issue further and has written his first novel.Richard Davies holds a BA and MA in history from the University of Maine and was awarded a Ford Foundation Fellowship, serving as staff historian for the Ford Foundation's interdisciplinary investigation into the environmental degradation of the Penobscot River in Maine.While in graduate school, he was elected to the first of four terms in the Maine House of Representatives for the town of Orono.From 1982 Davies served as legislative director for Governor Joseph Brennan. And from 1987, he worked for the Maine State Housing Authority, founded Public Policy Associates, Inc., and worked as a senior policy advisor for Governor John E. Baldacci.


He then became the state's public advocate, representing the interests of consumers of utility services in proceedings before the Maine Public Utilities Commission.Davies was elected Kennebec County treasurer in 2013 and reelected in 2017.Dick has been a key public servant who progressed the quality of life for all the people of Maine throughout his career.
