Gentlemen: I do not feel at liberty to deny your request; but in putting the manuscript of my Address into your bands, I feel bound, in justice to myself to say, that it was written under great pressure as to time, while I was laboring under severe indisposition, and with no view to publication. I do not think it proper to re-write it and thus furnish anything that was not spoken, and therefore hand you the manuscript precisely as delivered. I am, &c.
