The Battle of Bugsville is a unique children's book in both content and in its construction. Based on illustrations from the 1940's, the book tells the tale of a town full of bees and the spider near by that is using some of them for slave labor. An intrepid Bee by the name of Bobby discovers the spider's workshop and rallies his fellow bees to fight the evil spider. The battle does not go well and the spider is actually winning until the military arrives to save the day. The text of the book is brief and in rhyme. It is designed to be read to the very young and simple enough for beginning readers to read for themselves.Though battle is definitely violent, no bees or spiders die during the war. The military is definitely the hero of this book and if there is a moral it is to stand against evil and look out for your fellow "bee".
