David James Duncan is the author of the novels THE RIVER WHY and THE BROTHERS K, the story collection RIVER TEETH, and the nonfiction books MY STORY AS TOLD BY WATER and GOD LAUGHS & PLAYS. His writings celebrate imaginative and religious freedom, watershed-based thinking, and the importance of wilderness, wild salmon, and community. His work has won three Pacific Northwest Bookseller's Awards, two Pushcart Prizes, a Lannan Fellowship, the Western States Book Award for Nonfiction, and other honors, and has appeared in Best American Sports Writing, Best American Essays, Best American Spiritual Writing (five times), and in fifty anthologies.
