Mohammed M. Ettouney, PhD, PE, MBA, F AEI, Dist M ASCE, received an honors award from the National Institute of Building Sciences (2015) for developing an Advanced Materials Database, Owners Performance Methods, and co-developing School Safety procedures. His developments of risk and resilience processes for projects related to the US Department of Homeland Security earned him the Anachin Innovation Award (2013). He is a distinguished member in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) since 2011). Dr. Ettouney is a consulting engineer. He received his Doctor of Science in structural mechanics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1976. Since then, his interest in the field, both as a practitioner and a researcher, has been in multihazards safety of structures, progressive collapse of buildings, uncertainties in structural stability, blast mitigation of numerous buildings around the world, underwater acoustics, seismic analysis and design, structural health monitoring, risk and resilience management of civil infrastructures, and innovative concepts such as probabilistic boundary element method, scale-independent elements, and framework for evaluation of lunar-based structural concepts.

Dr. Ettouney has authored or coauthored more than 400 publications and reports and contributed to and authored several books. He introduced several new practical and theoretical methods in the fields of earthquake engineering, acoustics, structural health monitoring, progressive collapse, blast engineering, and underwater vibrations. He co-invented the "seismic blast" slotted connection. More recently, he introduced the "economic theory of inspection," "general and special theories of instrumentation," coined the concept of "resilience management," and numerous principles and techniques in the field of infrastructure health--all pioneering efforts that can help in developing durable infrastructures at reasonable costs.
