A Teacher's Journey.What Breast Cancer Taught Me is a heartfelt journal of retired teacher Judith Fitzgerald's diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. Her diagnosis in January of 2009 resulted in a double mastectomy followed by months of therapy, treatment, and reconstructive surgeries. Following her diagnosis, she learned through extensive reading and networking with survivors that diet, nutrition and lifestyle were key elements in achieving long-term survival. She also learned these topics were not eagerly discussed by oncologists, since no medical protocol exists for these subjects. Standard treatment merely recommends that breast cancer survivors eat a healthy diet.but she found there's much more to it than that. Her vision in writing this book is to share what she learned, as well as to raise awareness that more research is needed in the area of breast cancer prevention.

For this purpose, Judy, along with her sisters, Mom, and sisters-in-law have founded Sisters4Prevention. All proceeds from this book as well as items sold on the Sisters website benefit the clinical trials of the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine under the direction of Dr. Vincent Tuohy.
