There's this word in biology called homeostasis which is almost like a word found in a foreign language that's so beautiful and has no direct English equivalent. It is the body's tendency to keep its internal processes in equilibrium. You're too cold? Your body shivers to produce heat. You're too hot? Your body sweats to cool off. Each type of cell has a chalkboard's worth of examples in biochemical equations. An analogue lies in the balance to life. Attempts to find a fulcrum between two opposites usually results in you teeter-tottering. You need more pessimism when you fall from the very high cliff you were climbing in your dreams and jerk awake into reality.

Then when good things keep passing by like cars on a residential street, you need more optimism. There are so many other examples, and advice that made perfect sense may now make no sense. Just what do you want to be with your life? You can't expect balance by thinking so hard. Having many thoughts in your head is like having many drugs in your system. The body can't stabilize everything else if hallucinations are occurring. It's the same thing if consciousness is having a slightly lesser experience in imagination, only everything else is your life in this context. Clear your system; clear your mind. Then you'll 'just know' what to do, doing your thing just like the body doing its thing.
