Several biographies have been written with regard to individual experiences, careers, and of life circumstances. But this biography is an attempt to put together the life experiences of my own father Jack Foster, and of events within his lifetime, especially as a younger man. The timescale of events in Jack's early life would all occur living on the pre-war Sheffield council estate of the Arbourthorne located within the south east of the city. From such humble beginnings, that would take him around the world, to his involvement in a war taking place in the 'Far East,' or the 'Malayan Emergency' as the history books relay the conflict. During the 'Emergency' Jack was selected to become a member of one of the elite forces of the British Army, serving with the 'Special Air Service Parachute Regiment' within the jungles of Malaya. Following on from his Army service Jack plied his trade as a Bricklayer working on building sites in Sheffield and throughout the UK. He has always been a hardworking man, and a man well known to many within the Sheffield area. Himself admitting he was no 'angel' during his earlier days, especially settling back down to civilian life following his time with the Army.
Within my own lifetime experience, the SAS only came to my prominence, as with many others of my generation during the Iranian Embassy Siege of 1980. As I soon began to realise that here was a special man, who had undergone through such similar stealth operations with the Special Air Service and Parachuting into enemy controlled areas, and was a part of his life, that I knew very little about. This is the story of Jack Foster.
