Danny, a young monarch butterfly, awakens in his favorite red rose only to find himself far from the Magic Garden, carried into a gray city of smoke and sorrow. Longing for his friends Betty and Blue Dash, he discovers instead a world of tents, soup kitchens, and weary faces-yet even here, small sparks of wonder shine. An old woman calls him "hope," and Danny realizes that even the smallest wings can brighten the darkest place. But danger lurks. A terrifying queen moth, with skull-marked wings, rules through fear and captures Danny and other butterflies. With quick thinking-and the help of a clever raccoon-Danny escapes, leading his companions to freedom.
