This first volume covers the parishes of Aldbury, Great Berkhamsted, Little Gaddesden, Northchurch, Puttenham, Tring & Wigginton, which collectively formed the Berkhamsted Superintendent Registrar's District. It provides a snapshot of the entire community on census night in 1851, and combines an historical overview with attention to individual lives in mid-Victorian Hertfordshire.
