Putting these two superstar authors (Goyer and Seligson) together has created a mega-star production in Wonders of the Ocean Realm . What a treasure I found as I opened the pages and was met by all the details children love in a fact-filled documentary of their favorite ocean creatures, but written in a story-telling and compelling manner. I was drawn in immediately. The amazing illustrations were the glue that bound this whole tale together in a delightful way. Visually appealing, textually compelling, but for me the best part of the book was how the Creator of all that exists is woven into every page. It makes you consider the earth and all that is in it, the seas and all that are in them, and how the LORD created and preserves all of them, causing me to pause in worship (Nehemiah 9:6). This may have been written with young readers in mind, but this old reader loved the details of each creature (their intentional created design), the schoolish factual parts (their habitats and instincts), and the God-centered storyline. When learning new science concepts feels like story time and sounds like Bible time, it wins all around.
I can't wait to share little Astrid the sea star, Maximus the mantis shrimp, and several other new sea friends to my grandchildren and am looking forward to sharing this new resource with all my homeschool families and friends.
