Dogs were not a part of my life as I was growing up I was a cat person. Everything changed the day when I was visiting a local animal shelter.I never want to visit a shelter as I feel so helpless looking at the lovely pets wanting to share their love and affection. I want to take them all home.That morning, I walked past several dogs, some jumping up to greet me, just asking for attentionand love. Some were sitting in the confinement of their crate, just looking sad, and wondering what they did wrong to be here.One dog, called Spike, a one year old German Shepherd, and Collie mix was just sitting anddid not make any movement to me.I inquired about Spike, and found he was given for adoption because he ate too much and the family could not afford him.

Spike was a black and brown dog with a lot of love in his eyes.I asked to see Spike; I waited anxiously to visit with this beautiful one-year-old dog. After waiting a few minutes, the door opened and in came Spike. The first thing he did was jump up on the bench then he kissed my face. He was so happy to be out of his confinement that he looked at me and seemed to say, "Lets, go home."Once I saw his eyes, filled with love and questions, I had to adopt him.That moment changed my life forever.I started Smiling Dog Bakery to make all natural dog treats, dog birthday party kits and a complete line of products with the inspiration of Spike.
