Sarah Stanley Grimké's works, originally published in 1884, 1886, and 1900, are collected here with biographical introductions for each text by editor K. Paul Johnson. The book includes an appendix on her connections to the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor by Patrick D. Bowen, and extensive annotations drawing on correspondence newly coedited by Bowen and Johnson and published as Letters to the Sage: Selected Correspondence of Thomas Moore Johnson. Bowen and Johnson both contributed chapters to the Oxford University Press collection published in January 2020, Imagining the East: The Early Theosophical Society, edited by Tim Rudboeg and Erik Reen Sandberg of the University of Copenhagen.
