Richard Guare, Ph.D., D-BCBA is a psychologist and board certified behavior analyst who serves as director of theCenter for Learning and Attention Disorders at Seacoast Mental Health Center in Portsmouth, NH. He receivedhis doctorate in Clinical/School psychology from the University of Virginia and completed a postdoctoralfellowship in neuropsychology at Harvard Medical School/ Children's Hospital Boston and Boston VA MedicalCenter. Dr. Guare serves as a consultant to schools and agencies in programs for autism, learning, attention andbehavior disorders and acquired brain injuries. He has presented and published research and clinical workinvolving attention, executive skills, and neurological disorders. Dr.
Guare is co-author with Dr. Margaret Dawsonof the books, Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents, Smart but Scattered, Coaching Students with ExecutiveSkill Deficits and the recently published book for adults, The Smart But Scattered Guide to Success. He is also coauthorof the book Smart But Scattered Teens and the iPhone application Randominder with Dr. Dawson andColin Guare. He is currently completing a book on executive skill challenges for young adults with Colin Guare andDr. Dawson.For the past three years, Dr. Guare has served as a consultant to social policy research organizations andfoundations on the role that executive function skills play in job search and retention strategies for adults affectedby conditions of poverty and stress.
Dr. Guare has trained coaches for these organizations based on a coachingprotocol he and his co-authors have developed.
