On the night before her 50th birthday, famed author Karen Paul is working on her latest manuscript in the only way she knows how: she retreats to a cabin on a remote island and workshops it over and over again. Her audience is Sam, a bookseller who has been recruited to tell her if her book is funny or not. As the night progresses, and both grow more and more weary, the gloves come off and they fight about their art, ambition, love, sex, aging, technology, and more.
