Perhaps you've heard the story since you were a child in Sunday school classes. The Hebrew people started out on this journey, and the first obstacle they encountered was the Red Sea. After Moses and the Children of Israel fled from Egypt, Pharaoh was sorry that he had let them go. So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him, and took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh's horses and chariots, and his horsemen and his army and overtook them encamped by the sea (Ex. 14:5?9). Years later they would remember what happened that day at the Red Sea. They would tell their grandchildren how Moses encouraged them saying, Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today (Ex.

14:13). Now God tells them to remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not (Deut. 8:2). They would tell their grandchildren the stories of the manna and the meat, and they would remember that the one who provided was the Lord their God. Forty years? worth of wilderness stories could last for a long time. They would remember the times that God tested them. There was the water from the rock (Ex. 17:1?7), defeating the Amalekites (Ex.

17:8?16), the giving of the law (Ex. 20), the conquest of the land, the building of the tabernacle, and finally the death of Moses (Deut. 34). Each of us has a journey. What is your story? Can you look back on your journey with the Lord and remember the high points and the low points, the times when you obeyed God and he blessed your life, or perhaps the times when you disobeyed or failed to trust him? Remember the lessons that you learned. Ultimately, all that God brings into your journey is meant to conform you to the image of his son. And sometimes that's painful. As you look back on your journey, remember the times that God has shown himself faithful to you.

Remember the lessons that he has taught you along the journey.
