Associated with creativity, originality, newness and invention, innovation is a frequent component of creative writing. However, how, where and when does innovation occur in creative writing teaching? The writing arts combine common, established aspects of communicating through the written word with elements of originality that extend or challenge how written language is used. Different forms, genre and styles of creative writing stay close to or move further away from the writing mainstream.
