John Harte is a popular historian who was born in London and now is based in Ottawa. JOHN HARTE was born in London in 1925 when it was still the center of global issues. He was eight years old when Hitler became dictator, the unquestioned leader of what was then the largest and most modern military force in history. Harte soon became aware that World War II was a looming certainty. As a teenager, the author saw the emergence of fascists and their growing tensions with communists. He saw the unfolding civil war in Spain, with Nazi backed fascists on one side and communist backed forces on the other. In the meantime, at home, he saw the helplessness of Britain's weakest ever government. As a prep school boy, John Harte watched the bombing of London and the Battle of Britain from a rooftop in the West End.

With three older brothers in uniform, he was thinking about the war day and night. It was inevitable that the incidents of the war would be vividly stamped on his memory. Although he volunteered as an RAF pilot at the age of fifteen, he was too young to fly fighter aircraft. He worked on the south-east coast of England after being hospitalized for a minor wound and watched the build-up of American troops who trained with the British forces for the cross-Channel invasion of Normandy on D-Day. John became an investigative journalist after the war, focusing on extremist political ideologies, such as the rise of postwar fascism in England. His scoop was instrumental in ending Sir Oswald Mosley's political career as leader of the British Union of Fascists. Later, John visited Tito's Yugoslavia to study its communist regime. He moved to South Africa to report on that government's apartheid regime.

After retiring from his business interests, Harte chose to share with a younger generation the story of the rise and fall of Fascism and Communism. He is the author of many books, including several on World War I and World War II. His work-in-progress: The Manhattan Project. For more: http://www.johnhartebooks.com.
