The authority over each of us is bound up by the narratives we read, by the stories we feed into. The lack of authority, or authorship, can be the lost part of the soul brought on by constantly searching for and never finding the Spirit of truth. In my old life before finding scripture I would read Karl Marx followed by D H Lawrence, and conclude my day with Shakespeare's poetry. All this reading will surely keep me out of trouble, I hoped. While studying I'd glance over Greek Mythology pretending to understand, read postmodern literature topped with Freud and Jung, and with all this in my head my life will surely change, my ills will be undone? Of course my life never changed, under the realms of reason how could it? To change the Holy Spirit that holds a place far above reason had to be sought and once found change could no longer be avoided, it just happens.Generally this book contradicts almost every single word that I have ever heard or read, until I found the Bible. There is one exception to this rule, which you will read about in chapter 2. To gain a complete picture this book touches on addiction regarding personal recovery versus psychology, my comprehensive schooling, postmodernism, Marxism, Freud, Darwin and the destructive effects the constant and pretentious search for intellect has had on my life.

When looking at Darwin for example, although briefly, I will focus on my emotionally condition when touring the Darwin Exhibition in Cambridge a year after being baptized. To achieve this I will discuss the emotive stirring undercurrent I felt when reading letters that were sent to and from Darwin and his cousin Sir Francis Galton regarding eugenics, which is a theory based on human supremacy. I can only suppose that my emotional condition while there could run parallel to a type of depression, which seemed to be in common with perhaps how modern artists felt about eugenics during the finality of the industrial revolution and the start of the First World War where humans were segregated into class structures and given an economical evaluation. By many accounts an apparent upper class type of human had the power over another working class type's right to live, or at least how to live. Humans taking God's mantel by judging others on their intellectual and economical value and the result was upper class, middle class and working class where each person's life experience and general health would depend upon their position within that realm and earthly belief system. Darwin used eugenic theories as a sounding board to proclaim that the upper classes were intellectually superior. It was Hitler who hammered it home to justify his recognition of a super human race. Karl Marx on the other hand yearned for a way out for the working classes and transcribed perhaps millions of words on an opposing argument based on the repressed working classes where access to a reasonable living condition was apparently limited.

Having said this, Karl Marx clearly missed the primary point of humanitarian union and ultimate peace by continuing and transcribing an argument that dissected society between the rich landowners and the workers. Marx suggested intellectual and financial superiority was gained by repressing the masses, which suppressed an individual's natural ability being the primary benefactor to success. Marx suggested that the working classes were engineered, subdued and kept from varying resources that generally sustain life, and all in the name of greed. Take away certain resources from a human being and the results were inevitable, according to Marx. Much of Marx is based on material value and avoids any notion that a real and true Spirit could change people's lives. Having this Marxist perspective removed from my way of thinking, that people of a certain type can hold God's mantel to retract or add to another persons living condition, and my life improved. Handing that very same power to Jesus and all heaven broke loose.
