I didn't set out to write poetry, which is either the worst or best possible starting point imaginable. Poetry often struggles to touch me, which says more about the reader than the creator. Words as art often work only because the controlling group imbues a meaning not readily apparent. For that reason I often reject poetry out of hand, which is rather cruel. Many of these pieces started off as fragments and ideas intended as a semi fictional book. However I worried they lacked a consistent theme or trope and would have needed too much padding out and contortion. It took a while to understand that what I had was better delivered as poetry. They lack the rhyme and form of classic poetry and are written with simplicity in mind.

Having read them back, I felt they needed putting in context. For each piece I have added a few words of explanation. I hope, at least for a couple of them, you find you own meaning or resonance. In the meantime, if you work for a rapacious bank or cynical ad agency. Feel free to contact me and see how cheaply I'll sell out, peddling your shameful wares.
