Jake Hobson is the co-founder of Niwaki, a Japanese garden tool brand that has won much praise in both horticultural and design circles. After studying sculpture at Slade in London, Jake moved to Osaka during cherry blossom season, and subsequently feel in love with trees. Jake returned to the UK to gain a TEFL qualification (where he met his wife and co-founder, Keiko) then spent two three years studying Japanese gardening techniques at a plant nursery in rural Osaka. The couple returned to the UK, and Jake, with his newly found experience of superior gardening tools, set up Niwaki (please see more details on Niwaki below). Jake has written two previous books; The Art of Creative Pruning: Inventive Ideas for Training and Shaping Trees and Shrubs and Niwaki: Pruning, Training, and Shaping Trees the Japanese Way.
