The author, Michael Jacobs, spent twenty-nine years employed as a deputy district attorney by the Orange County District Attorney's Office in California. He spent thirteen years in the homicide unit, which he supervised for three years. In 1996, his efforts led to the formation of the first Orange County unsolved homicide project TRACKRS (Task Force Review Aimed at Catching Killers, Rapists, and Serial Offenders). He organized the investigation that led to the apprehension of the serial killer, Gerald Parker. Parker's arrest ultimately resulted in freedom for an innocent man, Kevin Green, who had been wrongly convicted of one of the murders and imprisoned for sixteen years. Mr. Jacobs left the District Attorney's Office in 2006. He is currently engaged in private civil practice in Irvine, California and working on his next manuscript pertaining to his legal career.
